IT was not a sight frequently seen in ancient Jerusalem, but angels will be spreading their heavenly message from the back of a tractor when villagers stage a Nativity play.
A rescue centre donkey, three wise men on horseback and a real inn will also feature in the ambitious Christmas pageant at Etherley, near Bishop Auckland, tomorrow.
Etherley Methodist Church decided to bring the biblical tale to life with real animals and will be performing the spectacle outside the chapel and the Three Tuns pub in Toft Hill at 11am.
Play co-ordinator Marie Cadman said: "It is ambitious, I must admit, but we're very hopeful it will go well."
Traffic will be stopped for the play and charity collections will be taken during the performance.
