Men relive war time episodes
Howard McNicholas, a member of the Redcar Retired Men's Association, took 61 members on a nautical jour-ney, recalling aspects of his wartime service in the Royal Navy. Entitled That's Life, Howard's talk, complete with maps and graphics was an account of his wartime exploits around Australia, New Zealand, Gibraltar, Malta and Scotland, touching down at Rome, Athens and Zambia in a Dak-ota aircraft in his 60 minutes presentation. He also told of rescuing escaped prisoners of war, co-operating with US troops after the second atom bomb in Japan, and watch keeping on frigates, sloops, corvettes and destroyers. The association meets on Wednesdays at 10.30am, in the Regency Hotel, Coatham Road, Redcar. Call 01642 472793 or 01642 485838 for details.
MALE CHOIR: Members of Redcar Male Voice Choir, under the direction of Margaret Fick, accompanied by Jean Weir, provided a night's entertainment for the Birkdale Community Asso-ciation at Eston. The choir, led by Martin McNulty, had a lighthearted mix of songs, solos, a piano interlude, and comical parodies, ending with a rendition of Jingle Bells, which dispensed with the traditional words in favour of more up to date sentiments.
