DETECTIVES investigating the murder of a woman, whose body was found dumped in a suitcase in North Yorkshire, are awaiting further details of a similar find in Hampshire yesterday.
The body of a murdered man was left in a suitcase outside Basingstoke railway station by a middle-aged Asian man early on Thursday evening.
The complete body of the victim, in his late 20s, was later found by British Transport Police.
Police in North Yorkshire are liaising with the Hampshire force after the bound and gagged body of a woman was found in a hedge outside Askham Richard, near York, on November 18.
The body of the murdered woman, in her late 20s and from the south-east China Sea region, may have been in the suitcase for up to a fortnight.
She was bound by distinctive tape, designed by London artists Gilbert and George, produced exclusively for the country's four Tate Galleries.
A spokeswoman for North Yorkshire Police said officers involved in the investigation had been "in touch" with Hampshire Police.
However, she stressed that it would be too early to suggest there were any links between the two investigations at this stage.
A post-mortem examination in Basingstoke showed the man died of "severe lacerations" to his head and body inflicted with a sharp heavy instrument.
