NOMINATIONS are flooding in for the Positive Young People Awards 2002, which will mark the efforts and achievements of people from Darlington under the age of 18, in an effort to highlight the good things done by the borough's youth.
Three nominations were received by Darlington Borough Council's community education department within 24 hours of the awards being launched in Wednesday's edition of The Northern Echo.
The organiser, the PS2K peer support team, is hoping many more will arrive over the festive period.
Six winners will be announced and presented with cash prizes to go to a charity of their choice at a ceremony at Darlington Civic Theatre, which has been donated for the occasion, on March 25.
There are three categories in which people can be nominated - Contribution to the Community, Outstanding Achievement and Against All Odds. There will be awards for under-12s and under-18s in each.
The competition is being run by PS2K with The Northern Echo, Darlington Partnership and the council's community education department.
Nominees must be aged under 18 or under 12 on the day of the ceremony and must have given their time voluntarily.
Tickets will be available, costing £2.50, at the theatre box office in the new year.
The deadline for nominations is January 31, and forms (available in today's The Northern Echo), should be sent to James Gilbey, PS2K, Community Education, Darlington Borough Council, Town Hall, Feethams, Darlington, DL1 5QT.
Anybody who would like more information is asked to telephone (01325) 388831.
