A LANDLADY has rediscovered some of the traditions of a North-East Christmas thanks to regulars at her pub.
Sam Kidd, of the Old Farmhouse, near Darlington, was determined to turn her back on a modern-day Christmas this year and so asked local people to share their family festive traditions with her.
Among the suggestions from drinkers were decorations made from dried fruit and pine cones, rather than tinsel and plastic.
Staff at the pub have also learnt about another tradition which they plan to introduce next year.
One customer suggested mince pies should be handed out to friends and family 12 days before Christmas to bring good luck.
A spokesman for the pub said: "The idea is that if you hand out the pies 12 days before Christmas, your generosity will then be rewarded on Christmas Day, as well as spreading prosperity among your friends."
Mince pies will be handed out to customers tonight, and then, next year, the full tradition will be followed.
