STUDENT Jef Trousdale celebrated his birthday in high-flying style, thanks to his wife.
The 37-year-old, from New Marske, Redcar, piloted himself in cyber-space with the help of a Tornado flight simulator at RAF Leeming. His wife, Alison, teaches guitar at Leeming Bar primary school and she snapped up the virtual flight when it appeared as one of the highlights of an auction to raise school funds.
Jef, who is studying graphic visualisation at Teesside University, made the most of his birthday treat.
After a briefing on the radar systems of the Tornado F3 he took off, flew around the local area and made a perfect landing, without ever leaving the ground.
