A COMPUTER project and a supermarket are joining forces to offer technology advice to shoppers.
Along with their weekly groceries, customers at Asda's Peterlee store will be able to stock up on information about basic computer sessions and online careers advice at an event, on Thursday, February 14.
Organised by the Integrated Access via IT project (IAIT), it aims to attract people to sessions in local libraries where they can learn how to use a computer and talk to careers advisors through video conferencing.
Project worker Martin Hearn said: "The project is all about making computers and communications technology more accessible to everyone.
"Up until now, we've used mainly local libraries to promote the project.
"Now we want to move out into the community to try to reach a much wider group of people, hence our presence in Asda."
Two project workers will be in the store from 10am to 4pm, to talk to customers about the project.
Mr Hearn said: "The aim is to take away the fear of computers. Once people master the basics, they will be able to use their new skills to access information, surf the net, send email or write CVs."
Courses are organised at a venue based on local demand, usually for between three and eight people.
