Seaham manager Wilf Constantine labelled his team a "complete disgrace" after they were hammered 8-0 at Ashington on Saturday.

The First Division's bottom club suffered their second 8-0 trouncing inside two months, which left their manager questioning his players' commitment to the relegation fight.

"Ten players should be looking at themselves this morning," he said.

"We were doing well for 20 minutes or so, but when we conceded the first goal, heads went down.

"Some players gave in completely, and that is unacceptable for me.

"We lost 8-0 against Bedlington, but we're not the only club that's happened to.

"The way we caved in was a total disgrace, against a team which is on the fringe of the relegation zone.

"It's at the point where some of the players don't want to know on the field, and don't want to kick a ball.

"I'll never give up battling against relegation, and I hope that's the way the players feel as well from now on."

Ashington went into the lead after 26 minutes when Ross Atkinson headed against the bar from a free-kick, and Tom Vickers scored from the rebound.

Atkinson scored the second from another rebound after Alex Lawson's shot was blocked, then within a minute Steve Sinclair headed in a right-wing cross.

Lawson crossed for Vickers to head the fourth just on half-time, and after the break, it was one-way traffic.

Lawson finished off a good move when he fired in from the edge of the box, Vickers grabbed the sixth from a low cross and Atkinson scored from a tight angle.

Vickers scored his fourth and the eighth of the game from the spot with five minutes remaining.

Whitley Bay are now five points behind leaders Bedlington after they won 1-0 at Washington, and maintained their unbeaten away league record.

There weren't many chances created in the windy conditions, but Whitley got the goal that mattered after 61 minutes, when Andy Hay scored in a goalmouth scramble.

Whitley keeper John Caffrey made a good save late in the game from Robbie Wright.

Former Guisborough manager Micky Hodgson returned to his old club with Marske United and tasted victory with a 1-0 win.

Marske had the edge on chances in the first half, and took the lead when Craig Gibbin fired in from the edge of the box.

Guisborough took command in the second half, with Darren Mowbray and Wayne Osborne going close.

Jarrow Roofing picked up a valuable away point at Peterlee.

Paul Chow put them into the lead following a fine solo run, but Lee Crosby equalised from an Anthony Jewson pass.

In the second division, Easington , who are chasing promotion, could only draw 0-0 with Norton.

Washington Nissan moved into sixth place with a 3-1 home win over Whickham.

Recent signing Paul Robertson scored direct from a free-kick, then Adam Johnston headed a second before half-time.

Jason Melling added a third in the second half before Philip Green pulled a goal back.

Crook Town drew 1-1 at Kennek Ryhope, who took the lead through Simon Andrews, but Andy Burgess levelled for Crook.
