SHAKESPEARE was brought to life for students as a school turned the spotlight on drama.
Sunnydale School, Shildon, has built a drama studio, created a post for head of drama and included the subject on the timetables of year seven and eight pupils.
The Black Cat Theatre Company recently visited the school to perform Shakespeare's Macbeth for year nine pupils.
Headteacher Peter Rogerson said: "It was a super afternoon. The quality of the company and the response of the audience were first class.
"The reason we have chosen to develop drama within the curriculum is because it has a unique role in developing confidence and team-work.
"We can already see the benefits with our lower school pupils."
Later in the year, touring arts company Takalani will be bringing South African drumming, dance and storytelling workshops to the school.
