CHILDREN will soon be enjoying their games on new play equipment, thanks in part to a load of old rubbish.
The slide and swings on the village green at Grewelthorpe, near Ripon, have kept local youngsters amused for a generation but have finally succumbed to their age and are no longer considered safe.
The parish council is to replace the equipment after securing funding various sources, including £1,423 from Yorventure, the environmental group funded by landfill tax credits from waste management company Yorwaste.
Children will get swings, the old slide will be replaced and safety surfacing will be laid. The work will start in the next few weeks and should take a few weeks to complete.
Parish clerk Barbara Bradley said there were more than 100 children in the village and the play area was a focal point for them
