PLANS for two building projects in Teesdale will discussed by councillors tomorrow.
The proposed developments, which include an application to build 30 homes, in Gainford, and 14 flats, in Barnard Castle, are expected to cause controversy which ever way members vote.
It will be the third time that Three Rivers Housing Group, in Newcastle, will have applied to Teesdale District Council to build homes on the site of the former Auction Mart, in Barnard Castle.
Two previous applications to redevelop the site were refused by members of the development control committee last month, and in October, last year.
Members felt that the development would have an adverse impact on the area around the site, off Vere Road; that there would be inadequate parking facilities; and that residents would lose privacy.
Planning officers will recommend that members grant permission for both developments tomorrow, despite complaints from Gainford Parish Council.
At a recent meeting, the parish council said the proposed development by Bryant Homes, to build 29 houses and a flat near Eden Lane, close to the site of the former Waltons Store, is excessive and would cause traffic congestion in the village.
In contrast, plans to demolish Gainford Petrol Station to build a medical centre, have received the full support of the parish council.
