TWO lovebirds found on the same street after a storm are now making sweet music together, thanks to a Guisborough couple.
But Ann and Thorsten Hendriks, of Redcar Road, are keen to reunite their new-found feathered friends with their real owners.
One of the lovebirds was found sheltering beneath the couple's front gate after a night of strong winds and rain.
They took it to the local vet where they were amazed to see another lovebird, which had been rescued from the middle of the road minutes before.
"The first bird was actually very clean but the one at the vets was so bedraggled-looking," said Mrs Hendriks, 33, a singing teacher.
"The feathers were all dirty and a bit ruffled. We said we would look after them both until someone claimed them and we borrowed a cage from a local pet shop."
Mrs Hendriks is certain the birds already knew each other.
"To have come in the same road within ten minutes of each other we would assume they are a pair. There's a big one and a smaller one and it looks like a male and a female. They are not fighting and, in fact, they sing together all the time."
Although Dutch-born Mr Hendriks is a bird-lover, his wife is less keen on keeping the birds.
"We have two dogs and two children in the house so it would be difficult," she said. "It's near to Valentine's Day, so with them being lovebirds, it would be nice to find their actual owners before then."
