A VIDEO and tv equipment hire company in the North-East believes it can beat World Cup sickness syndrome this summer.

Surveys suggest as many as six million staff around the country may ring in sick, or put in for a lieu day, when England play World Cup matches in Japan, in June.

Time differences mean England's kick-off times will be mostly in the mornings, or at lunchtime, when many people will be at work.

On-the-ball Newcastle firm The R & B Group, which specialises in conference services, is offering World Cup at Work packages, ensuring staff can take in the action without leaving the workplace.

It recommends installing 46in projection cabinets, suitable for audiences of about 50, in staff restaurants or communal areas.

Antony Crerar, of The R & B Group, said: "The predictions are that about 40 per cent of fans are likely to stay off during the World Cup.

"By installing one of these and allowing staff to watch the matches, it will mean they will go to work, and promote good morale.
