POLICE were last night trying to identify the remains of a man whose body was pulled from a river in North Yorkshire.
The corpse was spotted in the River Derwent, near the York Road industrial estate on the southern outskirts of Malton by a driver from a nearby depot.
Police were called and their underwater search team recovered the body of a middle-aged man who appeared to have been in the water for up to six weeks or more.
A check of North Yorkshire's missing person files has drawn a blank and neighbouring forces are being asked to look at their records.
Meanwhile, police are appealing to the public for help in identifying the man who is about 5ft 11ins, heavily-built and was wearing blue jogging bottoms with the words "consultant physiotherapist" embroidered on them.
Anyone who might recognise the description is asked to contact the police on (01723) 509352.
