ONE of the country's most famous non-league football grounds is staging one last big match before bulldozers move in at the end of the season.

The Kingsway ground, home to Bishop Auckland FC for 115 years, is due to be sold to developers so that the club can build an out-of-town stadium, in Tindale Crescent.

Before the Bishops leave, new manager Alan Shoulder is arranging a treat for supporters and sponsors with a match against his former club Newcastle United.

The Magpies will visit Kingsway on February 21 and Mr Shoulder is hoping for an even bigger crowd than the 4,000 who attended a match against Premiership title holders Manchester United five years ago.

He said: "It could be the last big game at Kingsway and it should raise some money for the club.

"They are bringing players with first-team experience and we are hoping that Bobby Robson will come to watch.

"I would like it to be a special night because of my connections with Newcastle.

"And I want to invite all our present and past sponsors to come along and share the occasion, which will be an opportunity to thank them for their support."
