MOTHER Bear, Aladdin and a host of children's literary favourites helped make storytime come alive for youngsters at an east Cleveland school last week.
The Traditional Stories Day at Harry Dack Infant School, in Loftus, was a continuation of a story sacks project organised by Sure Start East Cleveland and Village Arts.
Parents have produced several sacks through Sure Start course work and Village Arts has been working with children to decorate an area for storing and using the sacks.
Headteacher Chris Buckley said: "We are celebrating what has already been achieved. Story Sacks are an invaluable whole school resource, helping to develop language skills and foster a love of reading. Our mums have done brilliantly and should feel proud."
Sure Start East Cleveland manager Julie Conner said: "This is another excellent example of how we can involve all the community in working together. Staff, parents, children, Sure Start and Village Arts have combined to create a super resource."
A story sack is a large bag usually containing books of fictional and factual stories, at least one game and toys and objects that relate to the stories.
