SNAILS in Hambleton are being trained in preparation for a snail derby to be held at Falconry UK, Kirkby Wiske, near Thirsk.
Ian Ashton from the centre collected a load of snails on Monday so that they can have time to get into shape for the race on Friday, June 7.
This event is just one of many taking place as part of the Herriot Happenings to be held in the Thirsk area during the Queen's golden jubilee week. The local attractions group hopes it will encourage visitors to the area.
All group members are organising events and these are featured in a leaflet available from Thirsk tourist information centre, tel 01845 522755.
