A NORTH-East health trust has been chosen by the Government to provide training services.
Health Minister John Hutton announced last night that the North Tees Primary Care Trust (PCT) is one of just eight primary care organisations being granted teaching trust status from April 1.
Teaching PCTs are a new venture, part of the Government's NHS modernisation plan, and have been established to link the various training and learning services.
It is hoped the status will help tackle recruitment problems, and to retain more doctors, nurses and other health professionals in the area.
The PCT, based at Thornaby, has been chosen because Teesside has both the University of Teesside - which provides training for nurse and allied health professionals - and the University of Durham's Stockton campus, with medical undergraduate training.
