Chester-le-Street Town - The Under 17s warmed up for next week's tough Durham County Cup quarter final tie against Gateshead Redheugh Boys with a priceless 2-1 league victory over Lambton Street.
The Cestrians were a goal down when David Snowdon scored an unstoppable 25 yard drive. But Mark Adamson found space in the box to equalise. Twice Lambton Street had strong penalty appeals turned down before Andrew Murray broke clear to score a winner for Chester. David Lowther was Chester's Mom.
The Under 18s meanwhile have booked a place in the League Cup final at Nissan Sports Ground on th 19th May following a 6-0 midweek victory over Birtley at Moor Park. A stunning hat-trick and MoM performance from County midfielder Ben Gawthorpe was the highlight of the game. Craig Marley (2) and Andrew Robinson were the other goalscorers. On Sunday the Under 17s are away to Redheugh in the quarter-finals of the Durham County Cup (1:30pm); the Under 18s are at home to Jarrow St. Bedes in the same competition (Moor Park, 1:30pm), and the Under 16s have no game.
New Durham Leagues
Results from last weekend were: U16 Division A and Division B, all games postponed. Charlie Thomas Memorial Trophy: Cleveland Hall 1, Gateshead Fell 1; Redheugh 7, Newcastle East End 2; Stocksfield 0, Wardley 5.
Rohm and Haas JOC Hetton Youth League
Leaders Jarrow St Bedes and Sacriston progressed in the North East Durham Youth Cup. Both ties went into extra time and Jarrow eventually ended 3-1 winners over Ryhope with goals by Stephen Martin, Daniel McGinley and Steve McCaffrey. Mark Egglestone responded for Ryhope. There was an equally exciting match when Sacriston hosted Lambton Street, who have failed to win one of their 14 league fixtures. Sacriston, in fifth position, were pressed all the way and at the end of 90 minutes the score was 2-2. There were no further goals in extra time but in a penalty shoot-out Sacriston finished 3-1 winners. In the first two hours of play Dean Fox and Jeff Hepple found the net for Sacriston with Sean King and Jimmy Smith on target for defeated Lambton Street.
Fairs Software Tyneside Junior League
Oone game was played and leaders Walker Central easily had the better of bottom of the table Cleveland Hall, finishing 9-0 winners. The home side were quickly into their stride and the goals flowed from Dan Young, Ian Dixon and Wesley Richardson. Young went on to score a total of five goals and both Dixon and Richardson bagged a brace of goals.
The victory enabled Walker Central to extend their lead at the top of the table over Whitley Bay to four points but their rivals have a game in hand. Redheugh are also well placed in third position five points adrift of the leaders and the pair have played the same number of fixtures.
At the bottom, Cleveland Hall look doomed to end with the wooden spoon. They have still not collected a single point from 17 outings and have now conceded more than 100 goals.
Apollo Doors Gateshead League
The league was badly affected by the weather. In the U11 division just one fixture took place and Low Fell moved up into third position with a 1-0 victory over Sandhole. Stephen Dover scored the only goal. Leam Rangers Greens lead the table by six points from Leam Rangers Yellow and Low Fell are now third but ten points adrift of the leaders. In the U13 section, despite Anthony Ross and Craig Rankin both scoring twice, Felling Magpies went down 5-4 to Coxhoe who recorded only their fourth victory in 12 attempts.
Redheugh hammered Cooper Hall 8-0 when most of the goals were credited to Scott Swanson (3) and Martin Williams (2). The Reds still lead the table by six points from who were 7-1 winners at home to Blackfyne. John Rogers struck a hat trick. In the U14 division Blaydon moved to the top of the table with a 6-0 victory over Stocksfield when James Marshall and Liam Bell both bagged a brace of goals. Blaydon are now two points better off than Leam Rangers and they have a game in hand on their rivals.
In the U15 section, Cleveland Hall moved ahead of Redheugh into pole position with a 3-0 success at Sandhole but Redheugh had to settle for a 2-2 draw with Wylam.
Durham County
The under-18 juniors won through to the semi finals of their national competition, the FA County Youth Cup, with a closely-fought 2-1 victory at home to Suffolk in round four.
Playing at Durham City's New Ferens Park ground, Durham took the lead through centre forward David Stephenson (Jarrow St. Bedes). But Suffolk equlised. What proved to be the winning goal came in the 36th minute. David Angel (Trimdon) cut in from the left and curled his shot into the top of the net. Suffolk had James Evans sent off just before the break for a bad tackle. Durham are now at home to Lancashire in the semi finals, the most likely date being Saturday March 2. Auckland and District Youth League
Just turned sixteen, centre back John Close is a mainstay of the Barnard Castle under-18 side. The Durham lads just misssed out on the next stage of the Northern Counties competition with two wins and a draw from their five qualifying games. Dad Kenny Close played in the Northern League for Crook Town. John has returned to Barnard Castle after a season with Willington Boys. The Barnard Castle side has had mixed fortunes so far this season, topping the league cup qualifying table but presently next to bottom in the league. Willington Boys under-13s made a great start at home to premier division
Barnes Youth in the Russell Foster junior league cup, taking a 2-0 half
time lead with two goals from Chris Hope. Barnes took command in the
second half to run out 7-2 winners.
AWS Catterick
AWS Catterick under 9's visited Bedale under 9's and they soon took control of the game. Bedale had plenty of shots at the goal but AWS keeper and Man of the Match Jason Molyneux kept the game. Striker Arron Mornington followed up on a rebound to give AWS a 1-0
victory. Bedale B team soon took an early lead to see them 1-0 up. Luke
Hamilton scored an early equaliser. Jason Molyneux scored to put AWS in the lead, but AWS couldn't stop the pressure of Bedale who scored a late equaliser.
Riverside FC
A stunning equaliser by Danny Jackson secured the point in a tough 1-1 draw with Easington. that finally made Riverside U9s the Russell Foster League premiership champions. Riverside U11s went one-nil down to Barnes. And Riverside conceded a late goal while trying to push up for the equaliser.
City of Durham FC Youth
The Under 11s (small-sided) - They found themselves 4-0 down toRiverside Boys at the end of the first half. In a fantastic second half display the boys, led by midfield maestro Daniel Madden, led a terrific fight-back. Two goals each from Daniel Madden and Liam Camsell saw the boys draw level with two minutes to go. Daniel completed his hat-trick with last kick of the game to give the boys an unlikely 5-4 victory.
The Wasps remain top of the league after a hard fought 3-1 win against South Tyneside on Saturday. A well-taken goal from James Ellis opened the scoring. A great strike from Philip Walker and a final effort from Luke Hall gave the Wasps a well-deserved win. The Under-12s Pumas travelled to Wearside to take on Redby in a League Cup clash and won 9-0 'Dink' Fryatt, James Marwood and Johhny Heslop, Alex Courtney (2), Luke Sullivan (2) and Olly 'Scotch' Hotchkiss scored. The Panthers were in league action against Hendon Vic. The Black Cats won 7-2 with goals from Micky Lynch (2), Andy Parkington (2), Joe Lawther , Andy Summers and 'old
