Substitute Dean Windass came off the bench to earn Middlesbrough a point against Leeds United at the Riverside Stadium on Saturday.
WIndass, a 78th minute replacement for Jonathan Greening, headed home from debutant Benito Carbone's corner with just two minutes of the game remaining.
In a dour first half, Leeds dictated the play and took a deserved lead through Norwegian Eirik Bakke after 19 minutes.
A neat interchange of passes between Mark Viduka and Robbie Fowler eventually found its way to the back post where Bakke had the easiest of tasks in placing his effort past Mark Crossley.
Boro boss Steve McClaren made a double substitution at half-time in a bid to give his side a much needed lift, introducing Alen Boksic and Robbie Mustoe for Phil Stamp and Jason Gavin.
And just five minutes after the interval Boro drew level, albeit rather fortunately.
Skipper Paul Ince's attempted drive from outside the area didn't look to be causing Nigel Martyn any problems in the Leeds goal until it took an unexpected bounce off a divot and over the England stoppers head to level matters.
Leeds restored their lead just four minutes later though when Robbie Fowler's deft header wrong footed Crossley from Ian Harte's free-kick.
With just ten minutes remaining McClaren introduced Windass to the fray and it was the former Bradford man who had the last laugh when he headed in Boro's equaliser.
