THE winner of a young soprano competition in the region will share the stage at a Last Night of the Proms concert with the Kings Division Waterloo Band.
It is one of the Army's 29 regular bands in the Corps or Army Music, and was formed in 1994 as a successor to the Regimental Bands of the King's Division.
There is still time for talented singers aged 12 to 16 to enter the competition to find the region's top young soprano.
Music for Darlington, a charity organisation, is looking for a male or female Young Soprano of the Year, with the help of The Northern Echo.
Entries are being sought from across the North-East and North Yorkshire, with the winner receiving a cash prize and getting the chance to entertain a packed house at the Dolphin Centre, in Darlington, for Proms night, with the military band.
Competitors should send in a cassette tape recording of up to three minutes, of a song of their choice.
The winner will perform at least two solo numbers at the charity Last Night of the Proms concert, on May 18.
The runner-up could also get the chance to perform in front of a live audience with a youth concert, before the main event.
Entries must be made by completing the official entry form and returning it, with a tape by Tuesday, February 26, to Mrs Bradshaw, St Teresa's Hospice, The Woodlands, Woodland Road, Darlington, DL3 7UA.
