THE latest large pub development in a thriving national chain is on cue to open in a former snooker hall in the North-East next week.
Wetherspoon's has made a name with its popular format of large open-plan pubs in town centres, serving food during the day, and adopting a policy of no background music or juke boxes.
There are ten Wetherspoon's in the North-East and others in the pipeline in Consett and Sunderland, the second in the city.
The doors of the first outlet in Washington, Wearside, opens on Monday, in a 3,500 sq ft development in the Concord area.
The former snooker hall, in Victoria Road, opposite Concord bus station, has undergone a lengthy re-fit to create space for 650 customers.
It will provide work for 30 full and part-time bar and kitchen staff under the management of licensee David Routledge.
It opens at 11am, and will serve food until 10pm daily, and 9.30pm on Sundays
