A NORTH-East naval mechanic is playing his part in the fight against terrorism on board the HMS Illustrious.
The flagship is the UK's on-call aircraft carrier and is leading Britain's maritime contribution to Operation Enduring Freedom.
Marine Engineer Mechanic Matthew Plumb, 21, from Darlington, works in the Illustrious' ventilation department, providing the ship with fresh air.
The former Longfield School student was an optical technician before joining the Navy, and studied a GNVQ advanced construction and environment course at Darlington College of Technology.
