AN ambulance service is launching a campaign to recruit an army of junior lifesavers, with the help of businesses.
Tees East and North Yorkshire Ambulance Service (TENYAS) is planning to issue primary school children across North Yorkshire with a free first aid educational handbook intended specifically for six to 11-year-olds.
Local businesses are being approached for sponsorship in a bid to provide every primary school with the books for free.
The book introduces children to a range of topics including burns, bleeding, fractures, accident prevention, calling for help and lifesaving techniques.
TENYAS first aid training manager Bob White said: "We welcome this scheme with open arms because the very best way to learn accident prevention and first aid is to start early. Anything that helps youngsters to keep themselves out of danger, and maybe to save another life, has got to be worthwhile."
Businesses interested in sponsoring the scheme should contact the Access Partnership on 08457 413591.
