Woman injured during mugging
A 59-year-old woman has received hospital treatment for torn muscles and ligaments received when she struggled in vain to stop a masked mugger snatching her handbag as she walked with her five-year-old grandchild along Appleton Road, Middlesbrough, at the weekend. CANDLE FIRE: A family of five escaped unhurt from a fire which severely damaged a bedroom and filled parts of the house, in Orpington Road, Park End, Middlesbrough, with smoke. Unattended candles are being blamed for yesterday's blaze at the house.
STAR ACHIEVERS: Redcar and Cleveland Council Mayor, Councillor Vilma Collins has presented star ratings to 21 council and private sector care home providers. According to the accreditation agency, Residential and Domiciliary Benchmarking, standards of care were higher in east Cleveland than in some other areas of the country.
HEALTHY SUCCESS: Managers from nine doctors' practices have achieved 100 per cent pass rates and practice management diplomas following a year's course at Redcar and Cleveland College.
BUILDING AWARD: Hartlepool College student John Martin, 18, has been received an award for the most improved construction trainee, presented by the Construction Industry Training Board.
BLAZE DAMAGE: A television set was destroyed and a bedroom severely damaged by heat and smoke in a fire yesterday at a house in Boxer Court, South Bank, near Middlesbrough.
LIFT MAINTENANCE: The lift at Middlesbrough's Central Library will be out of action for two weeks while it is given an overhaul.
