CONSTRUCTION projects from across the region will find out if they are among the winners in the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) awards, when the international "Oscars" for the built and natural environments are announced tonight.
Newcastle International Airport, Central Square in Newcastle, Stocksfield Hall in Northumberland, the former Union Club in Newcastle, and Turning the Tide, a coalfield coast regeneration project in County Durham, are all up against the best projects in the world.
The categories include building conservation, regeneration and building efficiency, as well as the people's choice. The winners will be announced at a ceremony in London's Grosvenor House Hotel.
Peter Smith, chairman of the North-East RICS awards assessment panel, said: "The quality and range of the region's entries is superb and I'm certain we can compete with the best in the world."
Simon Pott, chairman of this year's judging panel, said: "The RICS awards aim to ensure that every aspect of the built and natural environment is considered."
