A HOME for disabled children and its staff have been recognised by two awards.
Mary Wilebore, a residential social worker at Park House, in Sherburn Village, has been named a national winner in the North-East National Training Awards.
The home, which contains a soft play area, sensory room, therapy unit, water bed and music aids, also recently received an Investing in Children award from County Durham agencies.
Park House is run by a 20 staff who are experienced in working with disabled youngsters.
Helen Lindsay, assistant manager of the Durham Social Services run home, said: "There is a real family atmosphere at the home and we are able to provide short break care for young disabled people in a safe, positive and stimulating environment.
"We aim to give each young person the opportunity to make everyday decisions and take part in experiences that many people take for granted."
Ms Wilebore worked for the council with special needs children for 11 years before embarking on three National Vocational Qualifications, ultimately becoming an assessor.
