APPRENTICE Leigh Ann Mylchreest walked into a job when she went to inquire about career opportunities.
Advisors at Teesdale Training, in Barnard Castle, were so impressed with the 17-year-old from the town that they found her a placement as a receptionist for the Teesdale Development Company.
Within weeks, she had been offered a permanent job with building company S and A Merchants, and the opportunity of work-based learning through County Durham's Learning and Skills Council.
Leigh Ann is working towards an NVQ level two in administration as a Foundation Modern Apprentice.
She said: "I wanted to work in my home town and feel really lucky to have been offered this job. I am definitely going to pursue my training because now I've found a career I'm determined to make progress."
Linda Pink, of Teesdale Training, said: "We weren't surprised that she got a job so quickly, but we'll miss her at our headquarters in Enterprise House."
The Learning and Skills Council County Durham has details of apprenticeships and work-based learning opportunities covering more than 80 careers.
