A NORTH-EAST media school has made headline news by being designated a Centre of Vocational Excellence.
The centre, which will bring in half a million pounds of investment, will be housed in the School of Journalism, Media, Art and Design at Darlington College of Technology.
College principal Sarah Farley said: "We are absolutely delighted. We already do excellent work in this area and have a national profile in the journalism training field.
"This will enable us to further develop first-class training programmes for students and for industry across the board.
"Our watchword is excellence - to have it organised in this way is a testimony to the high standards of training we already provide."
The college was one of 70 selected from 370 applications nationally to the Learning and Skills Council. It will be the only media Centre of Vocational Excellence in the North-East.
The media school works in partnership with national and regional companies, including Newsquest, publisher of The Northern Echo.
