RESIDENTS in the North Yorkshire market town of Pickering are out to create a new world record - for the biggest street party.
Behind the idea is deputy mayor Councillor Natalie Warriner, who says the organisers believe they can break the existing entry in the Guiness Book of Records of 465 at a street party.
"We have 1300 youngsters in Pickering so we are confident of achieving it," she said.
The jubilee party will be part of Pickering's newly revived carnival, which will be staged on July 13. To add to the celebrations neighbouring villages are being asked to enter floats.
Guest of honour at the event will be Joanne Short who was the carnival queen in silver jubilee year in 1977 when she was nine years old. Coun Warriner said: "We are anxious to trace the carnival queen for Coronation Year in 1953, but so far we have had no success".
