STUDENTS at Hartlepool College will be recognised for their achievements at an award ceremony today.
MP Peter Mandelson will present awards to about 45 students, and the overall Student of the Year 2001 will be announced.
Anthony Sutcliffe, principal of the college, in Stockton Street, said: "The award ceremony focuses on students who have been identified as worthy of special mention because of their achievements, their contribution to the college and to the wider community."
The event will also mark the presentation of the Beacon award, which Hartlepool College won for best practice in the New Deal provision.
The presentation, which will include the handing-over of a cheque, will take place in the presence of the Beacon award sponsor, Eversheds, the largest law firm in the UK.
