HARTLEPOOL United have allowed out-of-favour striker Anth Lormor to join Third Division rivals Shrewsbury Town on a month's loan.

Lormor has been unable to force his way into manager Chris Turner's first team and has not started a game since the 2-1 defeat to Luton on December 8.

Turner has Gordon Watson, Kevin Henderson, Adam Boyd, Jermaine Easter, James Coppinger and Ritchie Humphreys all vying for the front two positions, and the much-travelled Lormor is at the bottom of the pecking order.

Turner said: "It will help both Tony and the club.

"He isn't getting a lot of first team football here, which doesn't help a player of Tony's experience.

"Henderson has just come back, Watson will be back in a couple of weeks, Boyd is scoring goals and I've got Coppinger, Easter and Humphreys who can play up front if I need them."

The Shrews are the 31-year-old's tenth club during a career which goes back to his schoolboy days at Newcastle in 1988.

Ashington-born Lormor has scored ten goals for Pool in 26 League appearances, but has struggled to command a regular first team place since moving to the club in August 2000.

Meanwhile, after three months out with a knee injury, comeback man Henderson is determined to retain his place.

While the Pool forward, who scored 19 goals last season, has been happy just to have started in the last two matches, against Bristol Rovers and Torquay, he now has his sights on a goal.

Henderson has not scored since finding the net in the 3-1 success at Shrewsbury on August 18, 2001, and the former Burnley man is hoping that drought comes to an end this afternoon at York City.

"Nearly three months has been a long time for me to be out," said Henderson, who damaged his medial knee ligaments in November's reserve game with Halifax Town.

"So when I started against Torquay last Saturday after just a reserves outing and a sub appearance at Hull I was a little wary.

"But as soon as the game got underway against Torquay I forgot about it and I felt fine when Jermaine Easter replaced me in the second half.

"It was also nice to come back into the team and win.

"Then we went to Bristol and I started again and it may not have been the prettiest of games but we came away with the points.

"All I want now is to find my feet in front of goal.

"I know the goals will come and I'm hoping they will come sooner rather than later."

Henderson admits that he is a striker who always examines his performances on his results in front of the posts.

But having spent a third of the campaign watching from the stands he knows how important Pool's striking pair are if they are to keep climbing the table.

"Over the years I have gauged myself on goals, it's been that simple for me," said the 27-year-old, who is looking forward to the derby with Darlington on Tuesday.

"But partnerships up front are vital.

"I know that Flash (Gordon Watson) and Ritchie Humphreys were doing really well up there before Flash got injured.

"And now it just so happens that I'm playing alongside Adam Boyd, who is on fire at the moment.

"If he is putting the ball in the net then we both must be doing something right because it's all about working for each other.

"We can't rest on our laurels though because we know we have got a lot of good strikers at this club."
