ENVIRONMENTAL enthusiasts are being encouraged to visit the University of Durham, Stockton campus to find out more about Portrack Marsh.
Portrack Marsh, on the north bank of the Tees, close to the Tees Barrage, has a mix of pools, ponds, reed beds and grassland and is a haven for wildlife.
The site is managed by the Tees Valley Wildlife Trust. This year, a variety of activities will be carried out on the site, for which local help is needed.
Anyone wanting to find out more about the marsh can go to the Stockton campus on Wednesday, February 27, between 1pm and 3pm, or Saturday March 9, from 10am until noon, when Jonathan Pounder, from the trust, will be talking about the site and encouraging volunteers to help out.
The events at the university will include information about other environmental opportunities in the Tees Valley area, from pond clearing or wildlife surveys to studying for an environmental GCSE, A-level or even a degree.
Countryside officers from environmental centres will be available for information.
During the events, visits to Portrack Marsh, which is only a short walk from the university, will be available. For details call (01642) 618020.
