Yorkshire Water's £500,000 waste water treatment plant in the Heartbeat village of Goathland, on the North York Moors, is due to be completed in about six weeks.
A spokesman said it was part of the company's £400m River Care five-year investment programme.
"The work will mean that the effluent discharging into the river at Goathland will be treated to a much higher standards, and its quality will exceed the standards laid down by the Environment Agency," he said.
