PLANS for a village centre development will be put on display this week.
The plans for the development of Shiney Row centre, the roundabout and sunken pedestrian walkways, will be displayed at the community library, in Chester Road, today and tomorrow, and from Thursday to Saturday.
Next Monday, consultants will launch their ideas at a public meeting at Trinity Methodist Church Hall.
They encompass redevelopment of the roundabout and its surrounding area, the management of traffic and public transport through Shiney Row centre, and potential improvements to the shopping centre.
Residents and traders are being urged to use the exhibition and meeting to air their views before plans are finalised.
Councillor John Mawston said: "This is a big job over a wide area and we believe we're on the right road now.
"We're hoping for some success with this project in winning the support of the residents and traders.
"An interested resident, Mandy Blewett, instigated the first survey of residents' views a couple of years ago.
"The concerns and aspirations expressed in that survey are at the core of the proposals being displayed in the exhibition."
Councillor Anne Hall said: "This study presents a real opportunity to revitalise the village and provide improved facilities.
"That is why it's so important that we have a wide consultation, and I hope residents of Shiney Row will bring their thoughts and ideas to the project."
The exhibition will be open during normal library hours. For details, ring Peter Lawson on 0191-553 1541.
