A NEW scheme in Hartlepool aimed at pensioners who often injure themselves on slippery surfaces and going up and down stairs is proving to be so popular that there is a waiting list.
Staff from Endeavour Repaircare carry out safety checks when they carry out repairs and modifications to the homes of elderly people. The popular service is part of a Teesside Health Action Zone scheme.
Work includes checking paving stones and paths and staircases and banisters.
Pat Sole, manager of Endeavour Repaircare, said: "We feel accident prevention is vital for older people who can do themselves serious damage just by tripping up, or falling in the home.
"The waiting list is a clear indication the service we are providing is much needed and we will get around to everyone on the list.
