DLI association seeks members
THE Horden and Peterlee branch of the Durham Light Infantry Association is looking for new members. The branch is seeking people with a service background or those who are interested in the military.
The branch meets on the second Wednesday of each month, at 7.30pm, in Horden Labour Club, Sunderland Road, Horden. Further details are available from Graeme Foggin, on 0191-518 3503.
CHINA TALK: Biologist Barry Woodward will give an illustrated talk called Tangents on China when Easington's University of the Third Age meets tomorrow, at 10.30am in the theatre at East Durham and Houghall Community College's campus, Burnhope Way, Peterlee. CHARITY AUCTION: West Pelton Methodist Church is holding a charity auction on Saturday, March 2, in aid of the chapel building fund. The event starts at 11am and items can be viewed from 10.30am. Items can be donated on Friday, March 1, between 2pm and 3pm, and from 7pm.
ONE-STOP services: Gateshead Borough Council has opened a centre in Wesley Court, Blaydon, to house a library and handle rent and council tax payments, deal with housing inquiries and give housing benefit advice.
FOLK NIGHT: Jim Bainbridge will be the guest when the Davy Lamp Folk Club meets on Saturday, March 2, from 8pm to 11pm at The Art Centre, Biddick Lane, Fatfield, Washington.
GENERAL MEETING: The Royal Air Forces Association, Blackhall branch, holds its annual meeting tomorrow at 7.30pm in Middle Street, Blackhall. Area president Air Chief Marshal Sir John Willis will present the Area President's Certificate to branch secretary Bob Steel for outstanding service.
FRUITY TALK: A talk on fruit growing and pruning will be given to the friends group of Durham University's Botanic Garden when they meet tomorrow in the garden's visitor centre.
TWINNING VISIT: People in Seaham are being sought to provide accommodation for two parties of German visitors from Gerlingen. The visits will take place between May 2 and 6, and from May 23 to 27. Anyone interested is asked to contact Lisa Wilkinson at Seaham Town Council, on 0191-581 8034.
MATCH DATE: Members of the Chester-le-Street branch of the Sunderland Supporters' Association are asked to meet at Relton Workingmen's Club, in Chester-le-Street, at 11.15am on Sunday, to be taken by coach to Sunderland's match against Newcastle United, at the Stadium of Light.
