A RESIDENTS' association is giving away 280 personal safety alarms to help people feel safer on the streets.
People living in the Grindon, Plains Farm, Thorney Close, Springwell and Farringdon areas of Sunderland will be able to pick up a hand-held alarm at a community safety event being held tomorrow, between 9am and noon, at Holy Family Communion Hall, in Grindon.
The alarms were bought by Grindon Village Residents' Association with £1,000 it was awarded from the Opportunity Block community fund, set up by the Single Regeneration Budget sixth round.
Northumbria Police beat officers will be at the event to give advice on personal safety and crime prevention.
