A LOVEABLE whippet who refused to race needs a home.
Barnie is only 18 months old but has already decided that the racing game is not for him.
He was bought as a racing dog but it soon became obvious that he did not have the racing instinct and would rather play than train for a race.
His owners decided they no longer wanted Barnie if he was not going to be a champ so the National Animal Sanctuary Support League (NASSL) came to the rescue.
Barnie now needs a home where he will not be asked to train or race for his dinner.
Pauline Wilson, from the sanctuary, said: "He was bought to race and when he proved to be no good he sadly wasn't wanted anymore.
"He is more like a ballerina than a racer and has a lovely nature."
Barnie has been neutered and had all his jabs so is ready to move on to a new home where he will not be required to race.
Ms Wilson said: "He needs a loving home because he has a lot of love to give and his new owner should be willing to spend lots of time with him.
"People have the wrong impression of whippets and think they will chase anything smaller than them.
"Obviously if they are racing they will chase but normally they are very loving animals.
"Barnie would be great with children and other dogs - in fact he would make a great companion for another dog, especially an elderly animal."
Anyone who thinks they can offer Barnie a home should call NASSL on (01325) 321855 or 07748268822.
