A MAN has been arrested at a London airport in connection with a robbery at a Consett travel agents four weeks ago.

The robbery took place at Callers Pegasus, in Middle Street, in the early evening of Tuesday, January 22 when two masked raiders struck.

They fled with £25,000 in assorted currencies and travellers cheques. Later that week, 34-year-old Stephen Walton, of Sheriff Hill, Gateshead, appeared before magistrates and was remanded in custody.

However, police inquiries into the incident continued and just before 10pm on Tuesday police at Gatwick Airport, acting on behalf of Durham Constabulary, arrested a 29-year-old man as he disembarked from a plane.

The suspect, from Killingworth, North Tyneside, was escorted to Consett police station yesterday morning and was expected to be questioned last night.
