A TEENAGE girl who was reported missing more than a week ago has returned home safely.
But a second Darlington youngster is still missing - almost a month after she left home.
Claire Smith, 13, returned to her home in the North Road area of Darlington, safe and sound yesterday.
She had been missing since Saturday, February 9 and police had made numerous appeals for her safe return.
Police last night said they could not release any details about Claire's whereabouts over the past week.
But they have now relased new information about the other missing girl, 15-year-old Charlene Stanley.
She disappeared from the Skerne Park area of Darlington on Sunday, February 10.
Yesterday, police revealed that Charlene is believed to have travelled to Aberdeen and from there to Nottingham to be with her boyfriend.
The last contact she had with her family was more than a week ago, when she called home from a phone box in the Meadows area of Nottingham.
But when police went to the call box, Charlene was nowhere to be seen.
Although the police describe Charlene as streetwise they are concerned because of her age and because they have no idea of her precise whereabouts.
Acting Sergeant Mo Perwaze, of Darlington police, said: "Charlene travels a lot by train and she almost certainly knows exactly what she is doing.
"But despite this phone call home several days ago, we still have no real idea of where she is.
"Her age and the length of time she has been missing are the reasons we remain concerned for Charlene.
"We would urge her to contact the police either in Darlington or wherever she might be."
Police have now discovered Charlene and her boyfriend are no longer together and she has little money on her.
Charlene is 5ft 3in, of slim build, with dark brown shoulder-length hair and a fair complexion.
She was wearing a black long-sleeved top, blue and white tracksuit top and blue jeans.
Anyone with information about Charlene's whereabouts is asked to call Darlington police on (01325) 467681
