THEY may not seem the most lucrative of targets but burglars across the region have turned the humble garden shed into a £1m-plus treasure house.
Villains are targeting garages and outbuildings and getting away with shed loads of valuables.
Police in North Yorkshire, who investigate more than £1m of goods every year stolen from garden sheds, are convinced householders could do more to secure their property.
This week, they were urging residents from Hambleton, Ryedale and Scarborough to get themselves "shed-ucated".
The campaign began when a mobile unit, equipped with a shed with recommended locks and alarms, went on display in Northallerton High Street yesterday.
It was taken to Scarborough today and will be at the market place in Helmsley tomorrow.
Between April and December last year, about £950,000 worth of property was stolen from sheds and outbuildings in Hambleton, Ryedale and the Scarborough area alone.
Stolen bicycles from the same three areas were valued at about £120,000
