SHOPKEEPERS are being urged to stay on their guard after police issued a warning about forged currency in North Yorkshire.
Counterfeit £20 notes have been tendered in various shops across the county over the past three weeks, with incidents reported from Skipton to Scarborough.
They involved the purchase or attempted purchase of a variety of goods, from sweets and beer to clothes.
Police said the suspects were both men and women, with ages ranging from 17 to over 50. They are all thought to be Irish.
The majority of the incidents involved forged Scottish £20 notes, which were identifiable as fakes because of their thickness and lack of a silver line
