Stanhope Town moved up to joint top after a draw at Crook Wanderers. Stephen Emery gave Wanderers the lead but Stanhope equalised just before half time through Rob O'Dell. Two goals from Darren Fletcher saw Stanhope into a 3-1 lead but Barry Thompson pulled one back from a penalty. Wayne Lonsdale equalised for Wanderers to end Stanhope's five match league winning run. Stephen Gill gave White Swan the lead at Wearhead United. The home side turned the game round to lead 3-1 through Paul Tennick and Paul Tweddle (2). Ian Snow scored for the Swan but a Michael Watson penalty put Wearhead 4-2 up. Gill scored his second to make the final score 4-3 to Wearhead.
Earl of Warwick moved to within a point of the top with a victory against Rugby Club. The Warwick led 4-1 before Rugby Club hit back to lose narrowly 4-3. Anthony Bailes (2), Wayne Dobinson and John Wymer netted for the winners whilst Rugby club goals came from Michael Barker, Paul Barker and John Paul Collinson. Tow Law Cattle Mart visited Shildon Railway in the Weardale Cup quarter final but went down 8-0.
The Byers Green v Howden Australian game was postponed after the death of Byers Green player Edward Sharp junior following a car accident. Players of other clubs observed a minutes silence in memory before the weekend games.
Hathaway Auckland and District League
Coxhoe Athletic are showing good cup form and they reached the semi finals of the Weardale Cup with a 3-1 win at Cockfield. Goals from David Hutchinson (2) and Philip Lawson secured the win with sub Anthony White replying. Paul Arnott put Brandon Station ahead in their tie with Black and Decker. Paul Webster equalised and and sub Michael Quinn grabbed the winner. DSRM missed a penalty before Cleveland Bridge took a first half lead. Anthony Gavriel equalised but the Bridge went on to win 5-1 at half time. Dwayne Beagle grabbing a hat trick. Michael Lupton and Daz Wray completed the five. Shildon Railway made the semi after an 8-0 defeat of Tow Law Cattle Mart. David Hanson (3), Stuart Blackett (2), Doug Grant (2) and Andrew Turner scored the goals.
