IT isn't every day you can see Mongolian Opera in Spennymoor, but yesterday some of China's most talented performers took to the stage at the town's leisure centre.
Tibetan dancers and Chinese jugglers took their Year of the Horse show to the town in one of two dates in the North-East.
During the evening the Hunan and Mongolian Opera groups performed their mix of singing, martial arts and acrobatics to an audience of about 400.
The arts troupe is made up of some of the top artists from several Chinese provinces and during the day they ran a workshop for pupils from Leadgate Primary School, near Consett, and Greenfield School Community and Arts College, in Newton Aycliffe.
Stephen Wiper, from Sedgefield Borough Council's leisure services department, said: "We are trying to put on more culturally diverse acts, but the Chinese community in the North-East played a big role in getting this project off the ground."
