PRIMARY school youngsters have formed their own environmentally-friendly committee to tackle green issues.
Children from Copeland Road Primary School, West Auckland, have launched the Eco-Club which concentrates on the three Rs. Reduce, Recycle, Re-use.
A committee of eight pupils, Sean Ebdon, 11; Christopher Morrell, ten; Danielle Hunt, David Armour, both nine; Amy Chambers and Rebecca Fielding, both eight, discuss important green issues and have a say on recycling in the school.
Focus DIY store, in Tindale Crescent, near Bishop Auckland has donated a recycling bin to the club and Rebecca Fielding's parents have given two bird boxes and bird food for a gardening project.
Among the issues to be tackled are the creation of a wildlife garden and the recycling of fruit for compost.
The youngsters, which meet every Thursday lunchtime as a committee, and every Thursday after school for others who are interested in their work, are also recycling aluminium cans, paper and ink cartridges.
