A SCHEME to train athletics coaches for youngsters in east Cleveland has been given a cash boost.
The Awards for All scheme has given £1,675 to provide training for coaches for the East Cleveland Athletic Track Association.
The group has already been given planning permission for a scheme to develop an athletics training ground in Saltburn and is raising as much as it can to fund the track.
It already has £50,000 in place and needs another £30,000, before the National Lottery board will give 80 per cent of the £400,000 needed.
It is hoped the money will come from landfill tax money and a variety of other sources.
Graham Hall, from the Association, said the group was also looking for businesses to sponsor tracksuits for the coaches, which would enable them to work in all weathers.
One of the group's coaches is Redcar's Paralympian Tanni Grey-Thompson.
Youngsters who want to take part in the Redcar Junior Fun Run, on March 10, are being asked to raise sponsorship for the track.
Anyone who wants to sponsor the coaches' tracksuits or get involved with the junior fun run should call (01642) 490873
