A STUDY is to be carried out into traffic congestion problems in the twin North Yorkshire towns of Norton and Malton.
County councillor David Lloyd-Williams, who represents Norton, said: "The problems today are as bad as they were before the Malton by-pass was built over 20 years ago with the increasing number of heavy trucks going through Norton en route from Teesside to the Humber."
The study which is a joint exercise between the county council highways department, Ryedale District Council, the Government's Countryside Agency and the Town Partnership aims to explore ways of alleviating the traffic problems and improving traffic flows.
County councillor Mike Knaggs of Malton believes a roundabout at the Norton end of the bypass would be a major asset in solving the congestion
