RESIDENTS in the village of Ampleforth, near Helmsley, are to mark the millennium and the Queen's golden jubilee in a joint project by creating a millennium green and a sports field.
John Farquar who is masterminding the scheme, which is costing thousands of pounds, said the green was being grant-aided by the Countryside Agency.
It will include paths, wildflower grounds and an area where children can play in a natural countryside habitat. An old pond has been restored and bird boxes erected.
In the adjoining field, a football pitch is being made and playground equipment and a cycle track added.
