ORGANISERS of a popular agricultural show are banishing last year's gloom by gearing up for this year's event.
The Lanchester Show, which had to be cancelled last year due to the foot-and-mouth epidemic, will take place at Newhouses Farm on the weekend of July 6 and 7.
Its attractions will include a big dog show, children's activities, and for the first time, a tug of war.
Show secretary Carol Cliffe said: "This year, we are hoping to have a farmers market on the Saturday to support the farmers."
She anticipated that this year's show would be slightly smaller due to the effects of foot-and-mouth.
"I think most shows will be a bit smaller because of the cattle and sheep situation," she said."Farmers will be very careful when transporting animals, but this will let people get their social lives back."
